Local Newspaper coverage of new display vehicle

The launch of our new display vehicle made the news during spring 2007! Here is the copy from that article -

'A special minibus is helping the crack down on crime in Sandwell and spreading the community safety message in neighbourhoods.

The vehicle was the brainchild of the voluntarily-run Sandwell Crime Prevention Panel.

It will carry crime prevention materials and advice leaflets and handouts, and will be parking up in neighbourhoods to meet and discuss crime prevention issues with residents on their doorstep.

The bus will initially target neighbourhoods in the Smethwick and West Bromwich areas, but will also be used across the borough to support the council and police to reduce crime and the fear of crime.

Sandwell's Crime Prevention Panel chairman said it worked with the Smethwick and West Bromwich Town Teams to obtain funding for the vehicle.

"This is a massive opportunity for the Crime Prevention Panel to get out and about and meet residents of the borough of Sandwell, and get them more involved in crime reduction," he said.

Allison Fraser, Sandwell Council chief executive and chairman of the Safer Sandwell Partnership Board, said: "Overall crime here has fallen dramatically over the past few years - down 30.1 per cent in 2005/06 compared to 2002/03, representing more than 12,000 fewer victims.

"We are all working hard together to build on this."'
